Have You Heard About The Bird Poo Facial?

There is a new option on the brochure at the Shizuka Day Spa Nightingale. The New York City spa offers a facial that uses bird poo as the major ingredient. It is meant to be a gentle cleanser that cleanses the skin very well without the aid of chemicals. The treatment mask is made by combining nightingale droppings and rice bran powder. Ultra-violet lights are used to dry and sanitize the droppings, and the addition of rice bran helps to exfoliate and lighten the skin. A native of Japan, Shizuka Bernstein tries to keep her spa’s offerings fresh while sharing bits of her heritage with spa-goers. The inspiration for this particular treatment came from her mother. As a child, Mrs. Bernstein was told of the use of nightingale droppings by Geishas for makeup removal. The beauty of their skin was attributed, in part, to the use of the droppings. Naturally, a question that comes to mind would be “But what about the smell?” Apparently, it smells “organic”. Well, at least, that’s the word that is always thrown around when its smell is described. So what do you think? A poo facial, yay or nay? There is a video from the spa on page two.
