NEW YORK (CBS) — Mar 24 — For some people, acne isn’t just a nuisance, but a serious and disfiguring skin problem. CAAH Summary: As mentioned before on CAAH, dermatologists are seeing the usefulness of laser therapy and combined laser therapy for the treatment of acne. This report spotlights a new, non-drug, treatment that is showing remarkable results.
The report highlights a severe form of acne known as cystic acne. In the treatment, laser pulses are focuses onto the blood vessels which are feeding the growth of the acne cysts. These blood vessels absorb the laser energy and shrink as a result of the absorption process. Smaller vessels means less blood gets to the site of the cysts.
Normally, a patient needs to have four to six treatments in order to heal the cysts, and results can last three or more years. The patient interviewed noticed improvement after only two treatments.
Keep in mind, WCBSTV is a New York City newscast. So, though the information reported is useful all over, the $US350 treatment price quoted at Dr. Hellman’s clinic may not be representative of the cost elsewhere. Do your due diligence and find out more about this treatment and gauge if it is a good fit for you by asking a local doctor.
