FDA Denies Medicis Petition On Acne Drug Patent

REUTERS — Mar 18 — Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp’s biggest product Solodyn will face generic competition sooner than expected after U.S. health regulators denied a petition from the company to stop copy-cat versions of the acne drug from entering the market. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, the world’s largest generic drugmaker, said it would launch a generic version of Solodyn immediately, and that shipment of the product had already started.
