Natural Green Tea

In the fight against acne, natural green tea cannot be overlooked. The most talked about green tea benefit is its high concentration of antioxidants, which means that it helps to detoxify the body. Aside from this widely known fact, natural green tea has also been shown to help reduce inflammation as well as hormonal activity and is antibacterial as well – properties very useful against acne.
Polyphenols, the potent antioxidants in natural green tea, are classified as catechins. The six primary catechin compounds in natural green tea are the most active and are also the most widely studied. These compounds: catechin, gallaogatechin, epicatechin, epigallocatechin, epicatechin gallate, and apigallocatechin gallate; are commonly known as EGCG. EGCG have been shown to be highly effective agents against inflammation. Oolong, black, and natural green tea all come from the Camellia sinensis plant. The others are fermented in their processing, whereas natural green tea leaves are steamed. This steaming preserves the EGCG, allowing the natural green tea to maintain its effectiveness. Free radicals”” – byproducts of the body’s normal function – are dangerous because they are damaging to cells. Antioxidants have their detoxifying effect because they help to neutralize, counteract, and prevent some of the damage free radicals cause. This detoxification boost is beneficial to skin health too, in that it serves to help skin remain clear. Natural green tea applied directly onto skin has been proven to be effective in treating acne. In a study done by Dr. Jennifer Gan-Wong, an acne green tea cream was tried against a benzoyl peroxide acne cream and both were found to work equally as well. Where natural green tea beats benzoyl peroxide acne treatments though is in two ways: 1) natural green tea does not cause dryness and irritation and 2) benzoyl peroxide acne treatments create free radical whereas natural green tea fights them. Since natural green tea is easy to find and cheap to buy, it is definitely useful as a tool to help maintain skin health. What are some at-home pimple remedies that YOU have found to be effective? Do chime in.

    Hi,

Thanks for stopping by :) . How much do you need to drink? Well, since it is beneficial to health, my reasoning leads me to think that drinking any at all would benefit overall health. Also, matcha green tea is supposed to be a very very potent form, due to the fact that you drink the actual leaf ground up.

But on the topic of green tea's benefit to skin health, I was referring to it being a great topical treatment – with the same level of effectiveness as benzoyl peroxide, without having the negative effects of free radical production. Mixing natural green tea into an at home mask, for instance, would be the way to have it directly benefit skin :) .

Green tea has amazing health benefits, but how much do you need to drink? Studies have varied on consumption levels from one to three cups, and very little research has been done on the benefits of green tea for children. Whatever the amount, a little green tea in your diet is sure to have some positive effect.
